Gracefully woven into the tranquil embrace of Úlfarsárdalur’s valley, the project unveils itself as a harmonious tapestry where the Ulfarsá river, with its fluidic dance, becomes both muse and master, shaping the landscape with a delicate touch. Designed with a profound respect for nature, the project features a dynamic interplay between man-made structures and the surrounding environment. From the carefully positioned school, cultural center, library, swimming pool, and gymnasium that showcase a commitment to uniqueness rather than barriers, to the inviting green roofs and ramps fostering a connection with the valley, every element of the building harmonizes with its natural setting. Offering a sustainable haven, the project prioritizes eco-friendly living, accessibility, and shared community spaces, ensuring residents of Úlfarsárdalur and Grafarholt experience a cohesive blend of modern living and the serene beauty of the valley, creating a vibrant heart that unites the community in a celebration of nature and architectural innovation.

The project takes place where the residential area of Úlfarsárdalur meets the valley. There comes to life the heart of the city, of the community with school, cultural center, library, swimming pool and gym. A place that connects residents in diverse activities and encourages them to enjoy togetherness and outdoor activities in the valley that unites them.
The Ulfarsá falls down the valley and creates a pervading movement where the forces of water meet the landscape and shape it. To the north of the river bank, the natural environment of the valley is interlaced in a man-made residential area of Úlfarsárdalur.
The buildings take full consideration of the delicate nature of the valley. They do not create barriers between residential and valley, but emphasize the shape of their uniqueness, of the neighborhood and its relation to nature.
The shape and location of buildings create a game between nature and built with green roofs and ramps that attract and enable pedestrians to experience the valley in a variety of ways. The valley is returned to the residents. The location of the neighborhood center ensures a good access for residents of Úlfarsárdalur on the one hand and Grafarholt on the other however, whether it is pedestrian / cycling traffic through a valley or driving traffic from Grafarholt through Fellsveg. North of the new building, the main axis of the residential area directs people into or out of the building paths and ramp systems and down to the valley. Between them is that find a subterranean outdoor space that is useful for outdoor learning and gatherings. There, the residents of the neighborhood come together and meet, show themselves and see others. To the south, an intersection is formed between building elements inspired by the movement of the river. There, the nature of the valley is drawn in and becomes sheltered outdoor areas that residents can take advantage of in connection with the diverse activities of the new building.
